Corsair. Initially, I thought that she would do well as part of the Paladin crew, but placing her in with the Corsairs would allow her to contend with her soldier's life of obeying authority, and it would allow her to develop in a way that allows her to live more freely. In Type-0, Rem's budding questioning of the Crystal's memory-erasing-mechanic never truly comes to fruition, first in part because she is dying, and second because the end of the world arrives. What could have been a challenging but amazing moment to explore the idea of being forgotten is set to the side. The seeds of being defiant to the powers-that-be, or at least questioning them, exist within her... but spiral after spiral, death after death, they simply never had the opportunity to flourish. Placing her within a faction that has a culture of deviating from norms, rules, and proper plans would encourage her development as a character.

Background Information:
◉◉ Wiki profile here
◉◉ Wiki entry on Type-0 synopsis.
◉◉ While the wiki-link gives a brief overview of the events of the game and covers both the novel, the supplemental manga, and the events of the game, these summaries only cover two revolutions of their world's "spiral" (the novel covers one, the game covers another). T-0's lore is rich, but the novel has only been fan-summarized (there is an actual fan translation, but only partially). For the purposes of this app and to provide context to the lore, I am using the fan summary found here and the partial translation found here. A complete fan-translation of FFT-0: Agito, a mobile game that details three additional spirals can be found here.
◉◉ Rem's soul is one of the key loci within Orience's overarching prophecy, with her harboring the throne of love. At one point in time during these spirals, the "Mother-Creator" decided that Rem's (along with the thrones of fear, suffering, and age) were no longer necessary, so they "cast out" these four. Except, lo and behold, these loci would continue to stick around, whether directly within the spiral (fear+love), or observing adjacent to it as the spiral turned (suffering+age). Canon is not 100% clear on how fear and love stuck around since they were cast out, just that... the Nameless Tome says they were, yet they're still very present. We know these spirals have been going on for 600,104,972 revolutions; meaning that even though her soul had been abandoned by the divine, Rem has experienced these prior revolutions as well. She's just one of the ~lucky~ ones to be continuously reincarnated in a perpetually doomed world.
◉◉ Characters can experience deja vu in certain situations, some more than others. Rem specifically experiences the repercussions of the previous spirals in a subconscious way. In a previous cycle, the power-that-is in the novel tells another character that although one may forget, their soul will remember in other ways: the scars and darkness upon a soul carry over, and over, and over again. With each time the spiral resets, this compounds.
◉◉ In the previous cycle, because of her strong heart and her desire to end the war, Rem becomes the Judge at the end of times-- Tempus Finis. She deems humanity unfit and brings about an end to the world, thus forcing it to restart. Not liking how the events of this cycle resulted, the Mother Creator decided to intervene further on Rem's soul, leading to...
◉◉ ...her having a ~mysterious~, incurable illness in the current cycle. In canon, Rem believes that she acquired this illness when a mutant marlboro attacked their village on the border town between Rubrum and Milites. While this may have contributed to her sickness, in reality, the goddess intentionally shackled her soul so that she would not become Judge again, basically cursing Rem to have a weaker constitution.
Personality:
◉◉ 1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Upon first meeting Rem, a first impression might be that she's not a child of war, that she's not a soldier, that she's not experienced her home village being burned to the ground because of a border skirmish, and that she's not known anything along the lines of poverty, famine, plague, and massacre. In other words, a first impression of Rem is that, despite all of the aforementioned things have indeed happened to her, she's quite well-adjusted and resilient. In fact, to some, she might appear simply an ordinary student... and that's perfectly fine by her.
Rem's ability to overcome her hardship and smile in the face of it defines her character for about three-quarters of Type-0's story. To her peers, she's kind, charitable, soft-spoken, and always someone who is available to talk. Readily able to lend a shoulder to cry upon, or even seek someone out should she notice that they are unwell or stressed. Rem is also one of the few soldiers to pay respects to those fallen before. In a world where some cadets don't even know what a cemetery is or what good it does, her honoring the forgotten is seen as an unnecessary but kind gesture.
Rem's first priority is, and always has been, helping those for whom she cares-- no cold-hearted, cynical, "war-torn" soldier here, nope, even if she has all the reasons to be! As the war escalates in canon and the missions become both more trying and cruel in nature, she remains encouraging and believes in a cause for prosperity. No matter what ordeal her commanders put her through, she's both supportive and patient-- too much so in the case of Machina, her childhood friend and sweetheart. War and battle are not reminders to her that the world is cruel and unfair, but that it can be better, and that peacetime is worth fighting for. She strives for her country and her sovereign Crystal, yes, but more importantly, she raises her blades to defend those who would otherwise harm those dear to her. While she doesn't particularly enjoy war itself, she can-- and will-- kill as necessary; over her career as a cadet, she's slaughtered as many soldiers as monsters, if not more.
To protect her loved ones, and especially Machina, there is no price she wouldn't pay-- and this, unfortunately, ends up being part of her tragedy.
◉◉ 2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
Rem's driving force is simple: love, and this goes beyond the fact that her soul is literally the gods-created loci of it. Knowing that the Crystal's blessing is to have people forget the dead, her heart reaches for connecting to others in the present. In Orience, wishing to be remembered is, generally, a rather selfish notion because it would cause a living loved one to suffer through grief and mourning. Initially, Rem does not begrudge the Crystal's "blessing", for it is simply how the way Orience works; indeed, she herself has benefited from this mechanic after suffering great losses as well. However, there are cycles in which she questions it; in one, she asks Machina to not forget her, even while knowing the wish is impossible. (She dies and is forgotten, anyway, naturally.) In another cycle, she lashes out, expressing her grief that she will be forgotten. Wow, how selfish of her, mmhm/s.
Time, or rather, lack thereof, is another driving force for Rem. A terminal illness plagues her soul, and, swiftly, the reality of her sickness sets in: even if she is not prematurely killed on the battlefield, she will expire sooner than later. Knowing she has little time left to be with those she loves, and knowing that she can only do so much until her demise, Rem makes the decision to pledge her soul to the Crystal to become a l'Cie. This makes her an in-universe demigod-- at the price of her sense of self, will, and heart. To note: at the canon-point she makes this decision, the world is ending and she's already dying, but if it wasn't and she was perfectly healthy, the same decision would have made her effectively immortal, albeit chained to her Crystal. Knowing that "Tempus Finis" has already arrived, struggling, dying, and alone, she makes this choice to be useful-- to protect her friends and fight.
◉◉ 3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Rem will do anything to protect her loved ones, including trading her soul for power to protect others. She will attempt to hide how grieves her injury, her illness, and her pain from others, all so that they will not worry for her. She's not particularly good at hiding her Cough of Doom, though, and by the end of the canon, most of her classmates can pick up that she's ill, even if they are unaware to what extent.
Rem is also particularly trusting of those who are in power. Growing up as a soldier, it has been ingrained in her to follow those in command anywhere between her CO to the Consortium of Eight. When, in one spiral, the Crystal decides to sacrifice 8,524 of the older soldiers to summon a verboten Eidolon, and the Consortium supports it, Rem ultimately abides even though it is tragic. This actually makes for a seamless transition into when she gives herself to the Vermillion Bird Crystal. When one becomes a l'Cie in Type-0's world, the chosen individual loses nearly all of their humanity, reverting to a state that is near-emotionless. They obey the will of whichever Crystal they serve, effectively becoming the Crystal's tools. While canon has demonstrated there is some leeway in how much a l'Cie can deviate from their Crystal's will, it's not by much; however, newly-chosen l'Cie appear to retain more of their residual personality and motivations, if only because the centuries have not worn on them.
◉◉ 4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
1. Rem has a speech quirk, occasionally ending a sentence by repeating the main noun and verb. For example, instead of saying "the sky is blue", she will say "they sky is blue, it is."
2. According to Hajime Tataba, Etro (another goddess in FFT-0), watches over Machina via Rem.
Abilities & Inventory:
◉◉ Combat. Rem wields twin daggers, and she has a few different abilities to supplement his combat. Here is a list. Rem's daggers are stored in hammerspace.
◉◉ Magic. In Type 0, all of the playable characters can wield magic, although their capacity tends to vary depending on the prowess and the amount of MP they have. Rem is known to excel at magic, and her stats put her in the #1 spot in all magic compared to other units. As depicted in scenes and in the manga, she seems to favor fire, lightning, and healing spells. A full list of the magic can be found here. The "unique" spells on this list (Ultima, Reraise), are something that I believe she would have been working on at end-canon, but has not had the chance to practice as necessary before she became chair-ridden from her illness.
◉◉ Summoning/Eidolons. Summoning in Type-0 requires an actual human sacrifice. Rem can summon Eidolons by sacrificing herself for the cause. Extra notes on this:
◉◉ Phantoma gathering. Phantoma = soul/life-essence. Rem extends her hand out towards a deceased person or fiend, and she can extract their phantoma from their corpses. See here for a video. She can use this to replenish her magic, and she can carry this with her before turning the soul in to enhance spells at the Altocrystarium. Naturally, the harvesting of the dead's phantoma isn't exactly boasted as an ability-- it literally involves taking a creature or human's soul before it passes on. Yikes.
◉◉ Primus l'Cie. When activated in this mode, Rem gains superhuman strength, senses, speed, and both extraordinary physical and magical recovery times. Auto-haste/regen/protect/shell are applied. Her eyes glow red, she is able to fly (with or without using wings in vermillion-bird style), cloak herself and her weapons with fire, and basically withstand a lot of damage. Given this happens at end-game, it is unknown whether she inherits the rest of the previous Primus l'Cie's powers (e.g. making multiple fire-duplicates of herself to assist in battle).

- ◉◉◉ Canonically, those of Class Zero who summon Eidolons are brought back by Al-Arecia of the Consortium each time because they're ~special~, but this privilege is not afforded to anyone else, and it's equally not boasted by the class for secrecy (because why tell the rest of the soldiers that have been sacrificing themselves for Eidolons this entire time).
◉◉◉ A list is here. Sans the verboten Eidolons, she is able to summon all of them at her canon-point.
◉◉◉ Canon demonstrates a l'Cie can also sacrifice someone else (read: siphoning their life; they gather another's phantom to them) to summon an Eidolon instead, or in addition to, themselves.
◉◉ Phantoma gathering. Phantoma = soul/life-essence. Rem extends her hand out towards a deceased person or fiend, and she can extract their phantoma from their corpses. See here for a video. ◉◉◉ Additional note: Primus l’Cie have been shown in canon to wipe out entire cities with an attack, create giant craters in their wake, eradicate battalions of soldiers with a single attack, and life-siphon from multiple living people for their summonings, so much of her power in this state will be nerfed.

Questions:
At this point in end-canon, Rem would have collected a great number of phantoma/souls on her, majority human, given the last mission. They're not physically stored anywhere, she just has them. How many is she allowed to bring with her into the game, if at all?
